Si Vis Pacem Parabellum

Good thing I'm not religious.

See what fuel efficiency gets you? See? See?

Jeez, I'd better get a Hummer ASAP.

(And no, I didn't fake it. That's where it was when I put the nozzle back.)

Revisiting the visited.

A while ago I wrote that all of the gay marriage ballyhoo would eventually turn on those pounding the drums, as the more you attempt to cram something down the throat of the public, the more they tend to revolt against it.

Well boys, if you can't win New York, I wouldn't count on winning much else.

Activists had hoped to widen marriage rights for gays and lesbians beyond Massachusetts with a legal victory in liberal New York, but the Court of Appeals ruled 4-2 that the state's law allowing marriage only between a man and a woman was constitutional.

The decision comes two years after gay and lesbian couples, supported by gay-rights groups who saw a chance for a major court win in a populous state, sued for the right to wed.

"Clearly, in bringing the case and pushing it as hard as they did, it's pretty good evidence that they thought they had a substantial chance of victory," said Ohio State University law professor Marc Spindelman, who tracks lesbian and gay legal issues. "It's hard to read the decision as anything other than a rebuff of gay and lesbian couples."

I tend to believe the majority of people think along the same lines I do, which boils down to: Do whatever you want behind closed doors, so long as it doesn't traumatize the neighborhood kids or scare the horses. However, the second someone turns a given desire into a crusade, and attempts to cram it down the throat of society on the whole, they tend to accomplish the exact opposite of what they intend.

Fortunately for society, this lesson is one typically not retained by those who favor the value system present in your average San Francisco bath house or Berkeley comune.
