The Nanny Follies.

Well, this is hardly surprising. One of the recent nanny laws, For The Children™, is that all vehicles built after 2002 with a passenger airbag shutoff switch for kiddie seats, need to have this silly latch device to anchor said kiddie seat.

Toyota didn't put one in the Tundra pickup line. So, instead of adding one, they're just pulling the switch.

The Tundras in question were built with an airbag shut-off switch but not the LATCH system.

The solution? Spend lots of money and inconvenience customers...to remove the airbag shut-off switch.

The move not only doesn't enhance the safety of these vehicles, it actually makes the vehicles unsafe for small children riding in the front seat.

Of course, the story is on CNN, so the usual whining is present. As most any reader will know, I'm no fan of Toyota these days, as they've hamstrung their die hard fans (me) by dumping everything even remotely resembling a sports car from their lineup, replacing them with hybrids and family haulers. That said, I love how they're handling this. Absolutely love it, as it's a big eff you to the NHTSA and their absurd whining.
